Irene Sofiya’s murder – jealousy likely motive

JOHOR BARU: Jealousy and revenge were the motives behind the murder of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, say police.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk AB Rahaman Arsad said the victim was allegedly struck repeatedly on the head with a pipe in the Oct 3 incident.

“So far, our investigations have shown that jealousy and revenge were the motives, as the girl had rejected the suspect’s romantic advances and was instead in a relationship with the suspect’s best friend”,” he told a press conference yesterday.

He added that the victim also had defensive wounds on her.

Comm AB Rahaman said police had seized at least 12 items linked to the case, including a mobile phone, a jersey and a 96cm iron rod wrapped in a necktie.

He added that the victim had not been sexually assaulted.

Irene Sofiya died in the hall of a school in Yong Peng around 5.50pm on Oct 3.
