Budget 2027: OKU aid allocations raised to RM1.5bil, benefiting 300,000 recipients

PETALING JAYA: Overall aid allocations for persons with disabilities will be increased to RM1.5bil under Budget 2027, benefiting more than 300,000 recipients.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said aid for disabled persons who are bedridden or have chronic conditions would also be increased to RM600 a month.

“The income threshold to qualify for the Disabled Workers’ Allowance would also be raised from RM1,700 to RM2,000,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 9),

Anwar also said the Special Education Needs Student Allowance will be increased from RM150 to RM200 a month, benefiting 150,000 students with special needs, including autistic children.

The Special Education Needs Teaching Incentive will also be raised from RM250 to RM300 a month, benefiting 20,000 special education teachers.

There will also be two Permata Kurnia centres built in Melaka and Pahang to provide specialised education, support and training for autistic children.

“More than 130 new Tunas Istimewa kindergarten classes would also be opened in rural areas nationwide to provide early intervention for autistic children from low-income families,” he said.

In addition, 15 Community-Based Rehabilitation premises would be upgraded into specialised therapy centres to benefit 20,000 registered persons with Down syndrome.

“Specialised training will also be provided to 3,000 new caregivers for persons with disabilities to meet the demand for disability care services nationwide,” he said.
