KUALA LUMPUR: Nine new health facilities will be built, while RM1.2bil has been allocated under Budget 2027 for the maintenance and upgrading of existing hospital and health clinic infrastructure.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the allocation would also cover the upgrading of the remaining dilapidated clinics.
Among the new facilities to be built are a Specialist Clinic Complex and Day Care Centre at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor; a Dental Specialist Centre in Kuching, Sarawak; an Integrated Health Complex in Gerik, Perak; and an Integrated Health Complex in Rembau, Negri Sembilan.
"To expedite diagnosis and treatment, more than RM770mil has been allocated for the procurement of advanced and modern equipment, including upgrading haemodialysis facilities at hospitals nationwide.
"This also includes the procurement of 400 new ambulances for Health Ministry hospitals to speed up emergency response," Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said when tabling Budget 2027, themed "Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Ground", in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 9).
Anwar also announced plans to equip Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Specialist Hospital with robotic surgery technology to expand treatment options for patients on the East Coast and in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia.
"Eighteen Health Ministry training institutes will also receive clinical simulation equipment and basic science laboratory facilities to enhance the skills of more than 20,000 trainees, medical personnel and paramedics," he said. - Bernama
