KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tabled the Supply (Budget) Bill 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat for two hours from 3.35pm on Friday (Oct 9), outlining the government's spending plans and policy direction for next year.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, presented the fifth Madani budget since forming the government in 2022, continuing the implementation of the country's reform and development agenda.
Building on this vision, Budget 2027 focuses on eight key priorities shaping the country's economic and development direction, while ensuring that economic growth translates into wider opportunities, better living standards and resilience for future generations.
The eight key priorities shaping Budget 2027 are:
People's well-being and dignity
- Economic success is measured by people's lives, including better wages, family savings and opportunities to escape hardship.
High-value economy
- Driving growth in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, new energy, the digital economy and high-value industries to boost productivity and incomes.
Fairer opportunities
- Ensuring national wealth benefits the people through education, healthcare, employment and opportunities, regardless of family background, region or status.
Strengthening local enterprises
- Creating opportunities for small businesses to grow and ensuring the people become drivers and creators of progress.
Responsible fiscal reform
- Managing the deficit and strengthening the fiscal position to expand the country's capacity to finance future development.
Better-targeted subsidies
- Improving subsidy mechanisms to ensure national resources reach those in need and protect people facing hardship.
Governance and integrity
- Combating corruption and leakages, ensuring accountability for every ringgit of public funds and strengthening confidence in institutions.
National resilience and future generations
- Strengthening food and supply security, responding to global changes, and developing the knowledge, skills and creativity of younger generations. - Bernama
