KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s meeting with President Min Aung Hlaing is not a sign of any acknowledgement towards the Myanmar governance, says Communication Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
“The meeting between both parties in Kuala Lumpur today is not a form of acknowledgement.
“I mention this because there are some who are saying that Malaysia acknowledges the government in Myanmar, but we won’t be doing so as long as the Asean five-point consensus is not fulfilled,” he said.
Fahmi said he is just trying to make Malaysia’s stand on this matter clear.
He said this at the opening of the National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) in Inanam Central near here, Thursday.
Earlier in his speech, he said the meeting between Anwar and Min Aung Hlaing was to discuss the Myanmar refugee problem faced in Malaysia and to find solutions for this matter.
He hopes the meeting will bear the desired results in ensuring that the Myanmar refugees in Malaysia will be sent back to Myanmar properly.
He said another meeting is also expected to discuss the Palestinian issue after the tabling of Budget 2027.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to visit Malaysia on Oct 9 and Oct 10.
