KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has completed its 1,099th National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) with the latest one officiated here on Thursday (Oct 8).
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that with the opening of Sabah’s 132 Nadi, the government expects to see improvements in rural and outskirts areas in terms of economy, entrepreneurship, education, skills and digital developments from within communities.
He said Nadi's main objective is not just to disseminate factual information to the public but also to develop various aspects of life for the people while engaging in digital transformation.

He said the MCMC is working to achieve its target of producing at least one individual skilled in prompt engineering per Nadi through the ongoing 1Nadi 1 Prompt Engineer initiative.
Prompt engineering is the design and fine-tuning of text input to guide artificial intelligence (AI) models.
Fahmi said this programme has attracted a total of 1,247 participants, including 509 from Sabah, to date.
On other matters, he said stakeholders will discuss relocating some Nadi that are dilapidated or in less suitable locations, while the MCMC is also considering a roundtable talk with the business community to understand current concerns.

"We have received reports that some Nadi are in need of refurbishment while there are also calls to relocate some of the centres.
"There are also many physical business operators who worry about the large e-commerce platforms that continue to grow (offering cheaper goods more conveniently) because this is affecting them," he said.
Fahmi added that the MCMC, Federal Government, state and other stakeholders will continue to engage and find ways to move towards digital transformation without leaving anyone behind.
