KUALA LUMPUR: The suspension of two collection agents, My E.G. Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd, from Monday (Oct 5) will continue until payments are made, Transport Minister Anthony Loke reiterated.
The two collection agents of the MyEG Group tasked with revenue collection from renewals of road tax and driving licence as well as traffic summonses failed to remit RM314mil in government revenue earned between May 19 and Sept 30, he reminded.
“We stand by what we have said as we are expecting the payment. Before any application for the operations can be resumed, there must be settlement of the payment," he told the press briefly after presenting letters notifying tenants of the special rental rate at a ceremony held at Menara Sentral RAC in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
On Monday, Loke said that the ministry and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had, since May, taken steps to recover the outstanding revenue.
This included holding four engagement sessions with all stakeholders such as the Finance Ministry and issuing 35 reminders and setting a deadline for the settlement of the arrears.
He also said a cheque for RM231mil to settle the arrears was sent out on Aug 21, post-dated to Sept 30 but, when the cheque was presented for processing on Sept 30, the bank did not process it, acting on instructions from the company itself.
“As such, the ministry and JPJ were compelled to take the drastic measure of suspending payment services via the MyEG and Zetrix AI channels, effective Oct 5,” he said.
