IPOH: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in Perak has found no signs of water contamination in RON95 petrol storage tanks inspected at six petrol stations in Ipoh, Taiping and Kuala Kangsar.
The Ministry's Perak director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the finding was based on preliminary checks using manual dipping and cross-checks with the Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) system.
However, he said the preliminary findings could not be regarded as conclusive, as fuel samples taken by the ministry had been sent to the Chemistry Department for detailed scientific analysis.
"Therefore, the ministry is not drawing any conclusion on the allegation until the official analysis results are obtained and the investigation is completed.
"We will examine the laboratory analysis results and the overall findings of the investigation before deciding on further action.
"If any violation of laws enforced by the ministry is proven, firm action without compromise will be taken against those responsible,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 6).
Kamalludin said the inspections were carried out following public complaints and viral social media posts alleging that RON95 petrol was contaminated with water, causing damage to consumers' vehicles.
He said enforcement teams had carried out several inspection measures to ensure a thorough investigation. — Bernama
