PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will host Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing for an official visit from Oct 7 to 8.
Talks with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were expected to focus on key bilateral issues, including the repatriation of Myanmar nationals staying illegally in Malaysia.
Wisma Putra said the discussions would include the voluntary, dignified and safe repatriation of Myanmar nationals of all ethnic groups who had been in Malaysia illegally.
The two leaders are also expected to review ongoing efforts undertaken through Asean mechanisms.
“The visit would provide Anwar an opportunity to sustain his direct engagement with Myanmar, in line with the decision of the 48th Asean Summit in May to continue constructive and principled engagement with the country, consistent with the Five-Point Consensus (5PC),” It said in the statement on Tuesday (Sept 6).
As Asean chairman in 2025, Anwar had met then Senior General Min Aung Hlaing twice as part of Malaysia's engagements with Myanmar.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Utama Mohamad Hasan had also visited Myanmar in April and October 2025, as well as May this year, Wisma Putra said.
Wisma Putra said Myanmar remained an integral part of Asean and Malaysia would continue supporting the regional bloc's efforts to promote peace, reconciliation and access to humanitarian assistance in the country.
Malaysia would also work closely with other Asean member states to ensure regional stability and prosperity, it said.
