PAS questions if DAP will accept state exco removals without MB’s advice

PETALING JAYA: PAS has asked DAP to clarify whether the party would accept the removal of state executive councillor (exco) members without the Mentri Besar's advice in states under the party's administration.

In directing the question to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari urged the former to state his position should a similar situation to the ongoing royal dispute in Negri Sembilan were to occur in a state governed by DAP.

"In Negri Sembilan, the appointment of the exco members was revoked without the advice of the Mentri Besar, based on provisions within the state Constitution.

"If similar provisions—or those with equivalent constitutional effect—exist in the constitutions of other states, including Penang, the principles and interpretations currently being upheld must surely be applied consistently should a similar situation arise there," he said on Monday (Oct 5).

"What would your stance be if, one day, the same situation were to befall the exco of a state government controlled by your own party?" he added.

Loke had reportedly said he was confident that Umno and PAS would not be able to sustain their Malay-Muslim unity narrative amid the ongoing royal dispute in Negri Sembilan.

Ahmad Fadhli, who is Pasir Mas MP, said matters involving the relations between the royal institution and state administrations should instead be referred to the Conference of Rulers.

"In matters that touch on the relations between the royal institution and the state administration, are more suited to be referred to the Conference of Rulers.

"A more cautious approach should be taken, including respecting the space and roles of the royal institutions in accordance with the Federal Constitution," he added.
