No by-election for PJ seat, say EC


PUTRAJAYA: No by-election will be held for the P105 Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency following the declaration of the seat as vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution, says Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

The Election Commission (EC) chairman said the EC received notification from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul, via a letter dated Oct 2, 2026, regarding the status of the unexpected vacancy of the Petaling Jaya parliamentary seat after it was declared vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution.

"Based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has informed the EC that there is no need to fill the unexpected vacancy.

"Accordingly, no by-election will be held for P105 Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency," he said in a statement Monday (Oct 5).

On Oct 2, Petaling Jaya Member of Parliament Lee Chean Chung announced his unconditional resignation as a member of Dewan Rakyat. - Bernama
