PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in executing the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, highlighting the event as a testament to Malaysia's growing global reputation.
In a post on X on Monday (Oct 5), Anwar extended his appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, the event's organising committee, and the Malaysian workforce behind the scenes.
"I thank Bahrain for their trust in Malaysia and the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to make the event a success, which has forged closer ties between both countries," he said.
"The close cooperation between SIC and the Bahrain International Circuit, along with the dedication of the organising team, ensured the race ran seamlessly."
Anwar also praised the ground crew and support staff whose efforts laid the foundation for the event's success.
"My salute goes to everyone who worked tirelessly—from the bus drivers, security personnel, and volunteers to the traders and cleaning staff. Behind this joyous occasion, we recognise and appreciate their hard work and determination," he added.
He also thanked F1 enthusiasts globally, particularly Malaysian fans, for warmly welcoming international visitors with typical Malaysian hospitality and goodwill.
In a separate post on Sunday (Oct 4), the Prime Minister credited His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Bahrain’s King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa for paving the way for Malaysia to host the prestigious motorsport event.
“I pay tribute to His Majesty the King for his wisdom and leadership, as well as his close relationship with Bahrain’s King Hamad, which paved the way for Malaysia to be selected as host of the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix,” Anwar wrote.
He noted that being chosen to host the race reflects international trust in Malaysia, reinforcing its standing as a respected partner on the world stage, while expressing hope for expanded bilateral opportunities between both nations.
Anwar accompanied Sultan Ibrahim at the race alongside Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman Hamad Al Khalifa.
The event was also attended by the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, and Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah.
Other prominent royal guests in attendance included the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah; the Tunku Mahkota of Kedah, Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Sultan Sallehuddin; and the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra.
