Two sisters on motorbike killed in collision

IPOH: Two sisters were killed while another sibling was seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a car near Taman Perpaduan Ria here.

OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said two of the victims, aged nine and 19, died on the spot while their 12-year-old sister was being treated at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun.

ACP Muhammad Najib said the two younger siblings were riding pillion on the motorcycle ridden by the elder sister.

They were heading to Bercham shortly before the accident yesterday.

“We received a distress call at about 7.40am. The car driven by a 19-year-old woman hit the motorcycle while coming out from a junction along Jalan Perpaduan,” he said in a statement.

ACP Muhammad Najib said the driver was not hurt.

The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

“We will investigate whether the victims were wearing helmets. Those with information should come forward to assist police in the investigation,” he said.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the injured victim was semi-conscious after the accident.

“She had a cervical collar put on her neck before being sent to the hospital.

“The remains of both victims were handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
