PETALING JAYA: Most areas in the country had moderate air quality readings below 100 yesterday, and none at the unhealthy level.
According to the Air Pollutant Index (API), as at 6.15pm, two locations in Kota Kinabalu – the city and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu – recorded Category Good readings of 28 and 41, respectively, while Limbang in Sarawak recorded 46, putting it in the same category.
This was a far cry from Wednesday when Kuala Lumpur topped a global pollution ranking, logging an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 166, as reported by Swiss air quality monitor IQAir.
Singapore ranked third on the same list, with a reading of 155.
According to the report, under IQAir’s index readings, areas above 150 are classified as unhealthy air pollution level and indicate potential health risks.
The report noted that the milky haze has shrouded the cities for more than a month as smoke drifted from fires on Borneo and Sumatra islands.
