KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung’s resignation did not take place yesterday but more than a year ago when he stopped attending PKR meetings, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister and PKR president said he is unperturbed by Lee’s resignation.
“He hasn’t attended party meetings for a long time. He didn’t even attend the PKR Congress.
“So it’s appropriate (for him to resign). If he’s no longer interested, there’s no problem.
“Leave properly. I thank him for his contributions all this time.”
Anwar said the Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency allocations will continue as planned.
He added that he would leave it to the party secretary-general as to whether PKR will issue a RM10mil summons to Lee for violating the terms of the bond he had signed earlier.
Earlier, Lee announced his decision to resign as Petaling Jaya MP and said he will hand over his resignation letter as a PKR member on Monday.
Lee said his decision followed a formal suspension notice which he received from PKR on Sept 30.
