BEING shot at five decades ago still lingers in the memory of Sub Inspector (Rtd) Jakarta Makling – especially since one of the 7.62mm bullets remains lodged in his left shoulder.

Kosmo! reported that Jakarta, now 72, was involved in a shootout with pirates off the waters in Lahad Datu, Sabah, in 1976.

He was serving with the Marine Police at the time.

“Our boat was shot at and one of the bullets hit my left shoulder. I continued holding my weapon and returned fire,” he was quoted as saying.

Jakarta, who is from Semporna in Sabah, said the bullet was not removed as the operation risked affecting the nerves in his arm.

“The bullet is just left in there until now,” said Jakarta, who recently received an award recognising his contributions to the force from Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

Throughout his 40 years in service, Jakarta was involved in eight shootouts with pirates, with six clashes taking place in Lahad Datu and two in Sandakan.

> Despite losing her husband Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin nearly a year ago, celebrity Datin Seri Zizie Izette remains emotionally strong, Harian Metro reported.

The Malay daily quoted her brother, Shaheizy Sam, as saying that while Zizie Izette looks calm on the surface, she keeps matters close to heart.

“She looks alright and is very strong mentally. But that’s the thing about strong people.

“No matter how strong they are, we never know what’s really going on behind the scenes,” he said.

Bung Moktar, who was Kinabatangan MP and Lamag assemblyman, passed away in December last year.
