KOTA BARU: A total of 3,790 luxury vehicles worth an estimated RM550mil were seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) under Ops Luxury from June 2025 to September 2026 for various offences.
JPJ senior director of enforcement Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said 785 vehicles were seized between June and December 2025, while another 3,005 were seized from January to Sept 26 this year.
Negri Sembilan recorded the highest number of seizures with 469 vehicles, followed by Selangor (410), Kuala Lumpur (382), Johor (367) and Penang (357).
"Some luxury vehicle owners said they were reluctant to go to JPJ offices to renew their road tax because they had been blacklisted for previous offences.
"What is puzzling is that lower-income groups can come forward to renew their road tax, while owners of luxury vehicles from the T20 group have various excuses for not doing so,” Muhammad Kifli told a press conference at the Panji JPJ Office here on Sunday (Sept 27).
He said investigations found that an estimated 20 per cent of the luxury vehicle owners were cosmetic entrepreneurs, influencers and businesspeople.
"Being able to afford a luxury vehicle comes with the responsibility to comply with the law. Owners and drivers are responsible for ensuring that all vehicle and driving documents remain valid, and that their vehicles meet all requirements before being driven on the road,” he said.
Muhammad Kifli added that JPJ would continue Ops Luxury to ensure that all road users comply with the law, regardless of the price or type of vehicle or the status of its owner. – Bernama
