PUTRAJAYA: National security requires a coordinated effort by all agencies under the Home Ministry, with each agency playing its respective role to ensure that the people can live in a safe and peaceful environment, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister said enforcement effectiveness should not be measured solely by the number of arrests or the value of seizures, but also by the integrity of officers entrusted with carrying out their duties.
"Each agency under the Home Ministry has its own role, but all are working towards the same goal.
"Different agencies with different responsibilities, but one common goal - a Malaysia that is safe for the people," he said in a Facebook post today.
He said the ability to detect threats was an important component of the country's security framework, including through intelligence and investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police, which successfully dismantled a cannabis flower smuggling syndicate worth RM33.4mil.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the Immigration Department had not only detained 59 illegal immigrants, but also disrupted the transportation network facilitating their activities.
"In the country's waters, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) continues to strengthen border controls, including by detaining a vessel carrying 36 Indonesian nationals," he said.
He said security on land and at sea, as well as at all entry points into the country, must continue to be closely monitored and safeguarded.
He also commended the courage of police, Immigration and MMEA personnel who chose to report or reject bribes while carrying out their duties.
"This is the Home Ministry's security network that we build and strengthen every day - detecting threats, disrupting criminal networks, strengthening our borders and upholding integrity," he added. - Bernama
