PAPAR: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is intensifying its debt recovery efforts while expanding digital payment options as it works to collect approximately RM200mil in unpaid bills owed by 400,000 customers.
SESB Chairman Datuk Saadiah Aziz said the utility provider remains committed to recovering outstanding arrears by offering accessible, flexible payment channels to ease consumer settlements.
"To facilitate debt recovery, we have introduced the MySES application, allowing users to conveniently review outstanding balances and settle their bills. Traditional payment kiosks and physical counters also remain fully operational to serve the public," Saadiah said following the official commissioning of the Benoni 33/11kV electricity distribution substation (PPU Benoni) on Thursday (Sept 24).
She added that the ongoing rollout of smart meters across the state will further assist consumers by providing real-time tracking, improved billing accuracy, and better management of power consumption.
Turning to the state's power infrastructure, Saadiah said that network capacity must continuously adapt to match local development trends and rising consumer demands.
The newly launched PPU Benoni station, completed 62 days ahead of schedule, is designed to bolster regional supply reliability and accommodate Papar’s accelerating commercial and economic growth.
"Infrastructure planning must align directly with the pace of local expansion," she stated. "PPU Benoni is part of our broader initiative to reinforce grid stability across Sabah. However, preserving these assets requires a collective effort—not just from managing contractors, but from the public who ultimately benefit from them."
Saadiah also cautioned the public against performing unauthorised electrical maintenance, advising that all repair works be handled exclusively by registered, competent technicians.
Customers requiring assistance or reporting supply disruptions are encouraged to contact the official SESB Careline at 15444 or 088-515000 to ensure issues are formally logged and dispatched to response teams.
