JOHOR BARU: Security readiness and border inspection capabilities are being stepped up by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) ahead of the launch of the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.
AKPS director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said preparations are being intensified, including the use of technology, personnel training and operational simulations, to ensure effective inspection of documents and goods when the RTS becomes operational in January.
On the use of AI to curb smuggling, he said the technology needs to undergo a learning phase, including machine learning, before reaching maturity.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily also said 400 AKPS trainees are undergoing a three-month training programme at the Segamat Police Training Centre ahead of their deployment to the RTS Link.
He said the trainees are expected to complete their training by the end of this month before being deployed to the RTS Link in October.
