PETALING JAYA: Contributors under the Employment Insurance Scheme (EIS) will receive benefits and protection of up to RM25,000 under amendments to the Employment Insurance System Act, says Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
The Human Resources Minister said the benefit was among several changes under the Act, which will come into force on Oct 1.
Last December, the Dewan Rakyat passed amendments to the Act, which seek to increase benefits for PERKESO contributors who lose their jobs and strengthen the governance of the EIS.
Ramanan said the changes also included higher allowances for workers returning to employment and those relocating for work.
“The Early Re-Employment Allowance (EBSA) has been increased from 25% to 50%.
“Meanwhile, the mobility allowance will be paid as a one-off payment to those who have to relocate for work. If the distance is more than 100km, we will pay them RM1,000 as a one-off payment,” he said.
Ramanan said this during a press conference after the launch of the PERKESO’s iLINDUNGu Mega Festival on Saturday (Sept 19).
He added that the training allowance had also been increased to RM30 from RM10 previously, while the maximum training fee had been raised to RM7,000 from RM4,000.
On another matter, Ramanan said 400 housewives in Sungai Buloh had received contributions totalling RM48,000 under the Lindung Kasih Scheme (Housewives’ Social Security Scheme).
He said the contribution covered their participation fees, which were funded by PERKESO and contributors.
