PETALING JAYA: Another pilot has been arrested in connection with a drug trafficking syndicate allegedly linked to the Malaysian pilot detained in Indonesia with drugs worth RM45mil.
This brings the total number of suspects detained to seven.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the second pilot, who was picked up recently, was responsible for handling proceeds from the drug sales.
“He was caught in the Klang Valley area and is in his 30s. He was involved in handling the money, specifically transferring the proceeds,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He said the suspect tested negative for drugs.
Both pilots are believed to work for different airlines.
In July, a Malaysia Airlines pilot was detained at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after Indonesian Customs officers found packages of drugs among his belongings.
Follow-up investigations led Malaysian police to arrest six people believed to be suppliers and couriers who provided drugs to the pilot before a second pilot was detained.
Meanwhile, a Malaysian woman was arrested by Indian authorities after she was caught attempting to smuggle 15kg of cannabis, valued at approximately 52.5mil rupees (RM2.2mil), at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sept 4.
Delhi Customs (Airport & General), in a statement on X, said the passenger, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, was intercepted at Terminal 3 based on profile-based targeting.
“She was diverted at the Green Channel for further inspection. An examination of her trolley bag led to the discovery of 30 polythene pouches containing suspected ganja (cannabis) weighing 15,015.5g,” the department said.
