SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has dismissed calls for DAP ministers to quit the Cabinet over Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon bid, urging Pakatan Harapan to focus on completing its mandate instead.
The Pakatan National Elections Director and Presidential Council member said the views of the party grassroots should be respected, but the coalition still had about a year left to deliver on the mandate entrusted to it.
"Pakatan secured the highest number of seats in the last election to, at the very least, steer and lead the government," he said after the Selangor Budget 2027 engagement session at Le Meridien Putrajaya.
Amirudin said the government had delivered economic progress and maintained stability despite facing several challenges.
"We still have another year left. We should complete the mandate that had been given to us and deliver as best as possible.
"Being defeatist is not a wise decision when the contest is not over," he said.
He was responding to Kuala Lumpur DAP treasurer Ben Fong's call for its members in the Cabinet to resign if Najib is granted a pardon.
Earlier, Fong had said DAP could continue supporting the government from outside the Cabinet to maintain political stability even if its ministers stepped down.
The Federal Territories Pardons Board will be meeting on Friday (Sept 11), with Najib's latest application for clemency expected to be among the matters discussed.
