Former childcare assistant charged with abusing two-year-old boy

TEMERLOH: A former childcare assistant was charged at the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (Sept 9) with abusing a two-year-old boy at a childcare centre in Mentakab last month.

Nor Ain Ashikin Husin, 26, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before judge Jamaludin Mat.

According to the charge, she allegedly abused the child in a manner that could have caused emotional injury at a childcare centre in Taman Keramat Indah, Mentakab, at about 9.45am on Aug 11.

She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution offered bail of RM10,000 with one surety, but the defence sought a lower amount, citing that the accused was no longer employed and the surety could only provide RM5,000.

Judge Jamaludin allowed bail at RM5,000 with one surety and set Oct 14 for mention. She was also barred from interfering with the victim or prosecution witnesses pending disposal of the case.
