PUTRAJAYA: Several people, including a possible “VVIP”, are set to be charged today and tomorrow with offences identified by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
Among those to be charged is former TH chief operating officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani.
He is to be charged today at the Shah Alam Sessions Court before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud, a check on the court’s e-filing system revealed.
Adi Azuan was among those identified in the RCI report, which recommended stern action against him and four other former senior officers.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the charging was related to two of 14 investigation papers.
The suspects, he said, would be charged today and tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam Sessions Courts, he said.
“The individuals have been informed,” he added.
The charges are related to alleged abuse of power and misappropriation of RM334.2mil linked to investments in TH Marine, TH Alam and TH Alam Management, as well as the alleged corruption related to TH’s 30% stake in construction company Putrajaya Perdana Bhd.
A total of 17 people were arrested as part of the investigations, including the former investment director of Tabung Haji, the director of Putrajaya Perdana Berhad, the former director of Putra Perdana Construction, the former chairman of Tabung Haji, the Alam Maritim CEO and a former federal minister.
Abd Halim said a third investigation paper has been forwarded to the AG chambers, adding: “We expect that will lead to a charging in the near future.”
The third IP, he explained, pertained to the investment into the Al-Rawdah Real Estate Development and Project Management company worth 2.49bil Saudi Riyal (RM2.68bil).
He did not deny that a “VVIP” would be charged as well.
Of the 17 MACC arrests, 10 people were remanded. Around 245 people also had their statements recorded, with 60 premises searched.
Four investigation papers have been classified as No Further Action.
On investigations into Felda, he said arrests would be made next week, adding the probe followed information received on Aug 24 regarding the implementation of projects and investments by the organisation and management of its subsidiary Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) between 2010 and 2020.
“Six investigation papers were opened on assets bought above market value, leading to loses to Felda,” he said.
Included among the six identified assets are Grand Plaza Service Apartments in London and the construction of the Felda Wellness Corporation Sdn Bhd.
“As of now, 12 people have had their statements recorded, including three directors of the FIC,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously said that the Cabinet would discuss a proposal for a forensic audit into the management of Felda.
