MELAKA: PKR should consider using its own logo in future elections while giving greater recognition to party veterans who stood by the party during its early years, delegates said.
Selangor delegate Ahmad Danish Hairudin said it was time for the party to consider contesting under its own logo.
“The Keadilan flag carried the voices of Malaysians in 2018,” he noted.
He said Selangor was now the party’s last remaining stronghold after its defeat in the recent Negri Sembilan election, adding that Selangor PKR would defend the “final bastion”.
Ahmad Danish said the unity government formed with Umno was a compromise made to provide political stability, but stressed that there should be limits to such political cooperation.
He said PKR must maintain clear boundaries in its political relationships.
“Do we want to continue to be friends with the person who has competed against us, or do we want to fight them as we did in the past?” he said while debating the president’s policy at the PKR national congress here yesterday.
PKR Veterans Bureau representative Zukri Aksah called for only members who had been with the party during its formative years to be formally recognised as party veterans.
He proposed that members who joined between 1999 and 2007 be recognised as veterans.
“Only those who joined during those years would understand the trials, tribulations and sacrifices involved in the struggle.”
Zukri said many veterans and reformasi activists had sacrificed their finances, careers, families and even risked their lives supporting the party.
He urged the leadership to “heal the wounds of the reformists”, saying some veterans felt forgotten as new faces were elevated to key positions.
