MELAKA: PKR has not set a time limit on Nurul Izzah Anwar’s leave of absence, says party secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.
"At this point, we have not imposed a time limit on the deputy president's leave of absence because she wants to continue her studies, and we will be ready when she is ready to resume her duties,” she said at a press conference at the sidelines of the annual PKR congress here on Friday (Aug 14).
Fuziah said Nurul Izzah will begin her leave after the congress, which ends on Sunday (Aug 16).
After that, the deputy president will go on leave,” she added.
Nurul Izzah recently expressed her desire to step down as the party's deputy president.
However, her request was turned down by the party leadership, and she was instead granted temporary leave to focus on her doctoral studies.
On whether cooperation with other political parties will be discussed during the congress, Fuziah said that will depend on the delegates’ motions.
“It is up to the delegates to decide what motions they wish to bring forward, because they can debate motions including those aimed at strengthening the party.
“The president's policy speech will, of course, address matters relating to strengthening the party, the struggle, the future, the reform agenda, institutions and so on. So, it is up to the delegates to engage in the debate and put forward their ideas,” she added.
Fuziah said PKR’s central leadership council (MPP) will put forth four motions which will touch on the economy and political stability; healthcare; unity and the building of a harmonious society; as well as strengthening the party.
“The theme of this year’s national congress is “Memugar Reformasi, Membina Madani”, with memugar meaning to rejuvenate. It is not merely about looking back at the course of our struggle, but about providing a foundation for the direction of the party. We will use these three days to raise and strengthen the spirit of struggle among our delegates and observers,” she said.
The national congress, which will begin on Saturday, will see over 2,500 delegates.
There are 1,599 Angkatan Muda Keadilan delegates and 1,200 Wanita Keadilan delegates. The Youth and Women’s wings will hold their respective meets on Friday.
She said the motion on the president’s policy speech as well as the four MPP motions will be debated by representatives from all states.
“This year, we have also added four additional representatives to take part in the debates. The additional categories are representatives from the veterans, minorities and persons with disabilities, Orang Asli, and Borneo categories. These four categories are in addition to representatives from the 14 states,” she said.
