PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has effectively removed itself from Perikatan Nasional after announcing plans to form a new coalition, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president said this was in line with Perikatan Nasional’s constitution, which states that any party that joins another coalition would cease to be part of the alliance.

“They have already announced their intention to form another alliance. By doing so, they have automatically left Perikatan,” he said after delivering his kuliah duha at Masjid Rusila on Friday (Aug 7).
On July 17, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said a new coalition would be formed after the Negri Sembilan election, declaring that Bersatu “would not be alone” after the Aug 1 state polls.
Muhyiddin said a “formidable” alliance would be formed within a year to prepare for the next general election.
The Pagoh MP also revealed that Prof P. Ramasamy — the former Penang deputy chief minister who chairs Urimai, a member of the loose opposition grouping Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR) — had expressed readiness to discuss the form of the proposed cooperation.
Asked whether there would be an official announcement that Bersatu was out of Perikatan, Abdul Hadi said there was no need for one.
“There is no need for an official letter. Under the Perikatan constitution, when someone joins another party, they are automatically out,” he said.
