SEREMBAN: Take advantage of the good weather to come out and vote earlier in the day, says Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.
Ramlan urged youths, especially, to exercise their rights.
“We are confident of achieving a turnout rate ranging between 72% to 75% given the tight contest among the participating political parties which have also made efforts to mobilise voters.
“Based on our observations earlier, we also noticed more seniors coming out instead of the youth.
“Unfavourable weather has also been forecasted across the state later today, with the exception of Port Dickson,” he told reporters after visiting the SMA Dato Klana Petra Maamor polling centre here on Saturday (Aug 1).
He also said 293 complaints on election offences were reported to the EC with all having been addressed by the commission’s monitoring teams and other relevant authorities.
“This includes poster placements that obstruct road signs and campaigning without permits,” he said.
On the pilot project implementation of the Optical Character Recognition-Voter Attendance (OCR-VA), Ramlan said it was part of digitisation efforts in the electoral operations process.
“The main goal is only to see if voter identification can be done through the MyKad instead of the current manual process.
“This system also does not involve any other parts of the electoral process,” he said.
He added that the results of the pilot project carried out at selected streams in the SMA Dato Klana Petra Maamor will be further reviewed.
“Further engagements will also be carried out with related stakeholders,” he said.
