PUTRAJAYA: The Year One admission programme for six-year-old children continues to receive strong response from parents, with registrations and enquiries still being received despite the enrolment process already being underway, says Fadhlina Sidek.
The Education Minister said the continued interest reflected parents' confidence in the Education Ministry's implementation of the programme, which will see six-year-olds entering Year One beginning in the 2027 school session.
"As of yesterday, we are still receiving enquiries and registrations for six-year-old children.
“Throughout this year, parents are continuing to register their children, and we thank them for placing their trust in the Education Ministry to implement this programme," she said during the Education Ministry's monthly assembly on Tuesday (July 28).
Fadhlina also said that the admission process would become more streamlined and better organised in the coming years.
On preparations for next year's intake, she said infrastructure works at schools were progressing well, with several upgrade projects already completed ahead of schedule.
"God willing, we will visit several schools where the projects have been completed ahead of time to inspect the preparations ourselves," she said.
Fadhlina added that teacher deployment and staffing arrangements were also being carried out based on projected enrolment figures to ensure schools were adequately prepared.
Meanwhile, she said strengthening safety and public confidence in schools remained one of the ministry's key priorities through the implementation of comprehensive Safe School Guidelines.
She said the guidelines covered all aspects of school safety and were aimed at ensuring schools remained safe environments.
"We do not want our schools to continue being questioned in terms of safety, our teachers to be doubted, or our children to be neglected when we speak about public confidence in our schools," she said.
She added the ministry's efforts were ultimately focused on building a more resilient generation capable of navigating future challenges.
