TAMPIN: Repah candidate Koh Kim Swee’s campaign walkabout was briefly put on hold after he stopped to help a 62-year-old man who collapsed at a road junction in Taman Indah.
Koh was returning from a campaign event at about 4pm yesterday when he came across Tan Yong Ping lying on the road after suffering a medical emergency.
The Barisan Nasional candidate and members of his campaign team immediately rushed to assist the man before calling for an ambulance, which arrived shortly afterwards and took Tan to hospital for treatment.
Koh said helping someone in need was simply the right thing to do.
“Even if I were in the middle of campaigning, I would still stop to help. When we saw him, we immediately called an ambulance and stayed with him to make sure help was on the way,” he said.
He added that Tan was not a stranger to the local community.
“We have helped him before through one of our community organisations. We often see him around and, even if we didn’t know him personally, we would still help anyone in need,” he said.
According to community members, Tan suffered a mild stroke and muscle atrophy about a month ago, leaving him weak, unable to work, and struggling with mobility.
Residents had previously raised RM1,000 to help cover his living and medical expenses while he recovered.
The incident occurred as campaigning continued for the Negri Sembilan election, in which Koh is facing Pakatan Harapan’s S. Veerapan in a straight fight.
