JOHOR BARU: Three men were fined RM700 each by the magistrate's court here after pleading guilty to taking part in a public brawl while watching the 2026 World Cup final at a restaurant in Taman Daya earlier this week.
The court also fixed Sept 1 for the sentencing of two juveniles, aged 15 and 17, pending submission of social reports on young offenders.
The accused were identified as Abdullah Tenis Munisamy, 38, Keevaan Jay Arkesh Rajendran, 28, Muhammad Nafiz, 19, and the two teenagers.
They pleaded guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Nurzihan Abdul Rehman on Thursday (July 23).
According to the charge sheet, the five acted together in a fight at a restaurant in Taman Daya at about 5.40am on July 20, disturbing public peace.
They were charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Eizlan Azhar prosecuted the case, while all five accused were unrepresented.
On Monday, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police detained 12 men, aged between 15 and 38, to assist investigations into the fight that broke out during the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at the restaurant.
A 37-second video of the incident, showing several individuals fighting and hurling chairs at one another inside the eatery, went viral on social media.
