PETALING JAYA: Eleven individuals, said to be members of the "Vinod gang", will be charged in court.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said they will face charges at the Sepang courthouse at 9.30am on Friday (July 24).
"Investigation papers were referred to the Attorney General's office on July 17 and instructions were issued for charges to be brought under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code against all 11 suspects," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 23).
The arrests were made in June during Ops Rapido on June 23 and 24, following violent criminal activities in Selangor.
"The 'Vinod Gang' is led by a 30-year-old local man and has 17 members aged from 20 to 34, mostly repeat offenders.
"The group has been active since 2023 and has been involved in various violent crimes, including gang robbery, attempted murder, rioting with weapons, causing injury with weapons and mischief," he said.
He added that the gang would typically commit armed robbery using sharp weapons, targeting residential premises as well as committing other serious offences for the purpose of obtaining material benefits, power or influence.
"All those arrested have previous criminal records, including attempted murder, gang robbery, mischief/damage, causing injury with a weapon, housebreaking, criminal intimidation, extortion, rioting with weapons and various drug offences.
"With these arrests, police have successfully solved 21 cases and crippled an armed gang robbery crime syndicate active in Selangor.
"The police have also identified the identities of five other gang members still at large and efforts to track them down are ongoing," he said.
