SUNGAI PETANI: A 60-year-old man died on Monday (July 20) morning after the van he was driving was involved in a collision with a trailer and a car at Batu 34, Jalan Jeniang-Bukit Selambau.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan confirmed that a report on the incident was made at 8.00am.
He said the 33-year-old trailer driver was travelling from Jeniang towards Bukit Selambau when he lost control, veered into oncoming traffic, and ploughed into the van and a car.
The van driver, identified as Hassan Salleh, sustained critical injuries and was trapped inside his vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his remains have been sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
Meanwhile, the car driver, a 46-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.
The victim was identified as Datin Norhashimah Md Nowar, wife of former Belantik assemblyman Datuk Mohd Tajudin Abdullah and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the area.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
