KUALA LUMPUR: Talent development and AI readiness for professionals topped the agenda during talks between the government and Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia (BIM), also known as the Malaysian Professional Centre.

In a Facebook post after receiving a courtesy visit from a BIM delegation headed by its president, Prof Dr Juan Joon Ching yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said these efforts are crucial to strengthening Malaysia’s position as a regional hub for professional excellence.

Anwar said the government values professionals as strategic partners in boosting national competitiveness, driving innovation and pushing the Madani agenda for the people’s well-being, Bernama reported.

He also accepted an invitation to Hari Ikhtisas Malaysia, an event honouring the professional community’s role in national development.

The Prime Minister added that he hopes for even stronger ties between the government and professionals to nurture more talent with integrity, competitiveness and the vision to lead Malaysia ahead.

Meanwhile, in a separate post, Anwar extended his deepest condolences over the passing of Prof John L. Esposito, one of the world’s most respected scholars of Islam.

Anwar said his friendship with Esposito spanned more than five decades, dating back to their first meeting in the early 1970s.

He described Esposito as an influential scholar who built the intellectual foundations for a deeper understanding of Islam in the West, adding that his contributions to Muslim-Christian dialogue were immense.

Anwar also highlighted Esposito’s role as founder of Georgetown University’s Centre for Muslim-Christian Understanding and his work as co-author of Makers of Contemporary Islam.
