Water bills waived for over 300 flood-hit households in Melaka

MELAKA: More than 300 flood-hit households in the state will not have to pay their water bills this month following a RM50,000 special relief initiative by the state government.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the special assistance would benefit 327 registered flood victims, with their July water bills waived to ease financial burdens.

"This free water bill initiative is for all registered flood victims," he said during his winding-up speech at the Melaka Legislative Assembly, which adjourned sine die on Wednesday (July 15).

Ab Rauf said he had instructed the relevant agencies to ensure the initiative was implemented swiftly and seamlessly.

"The implementation must be simplified and expedited so that the assistance reaches those affected without unnecessary difficulties," he said.

He added that the state government deeply regretted the hardship caused by the recent floods and remained committed to safeguarding the welfare of the people.
