PALOH: MCA contesting against DAP has been the norm in virtually every election, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who dismissed allegations that the party was aligned with Perikatan Nasional.
"We have contested against DAP in virtually every election. Yet this time, simply because Barisan has decided not to cooperate with Pakatan, they are trying to falsely portray us as working with or going easy on Perikatan.
"Such accusations are both illogical and misleading," he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (July 4).
Dr Wee said it was an established fact that Barisan was contesting all 56 seats in the Johor election on its own without forming any alliance with other political parties.
He added that DAP's history of working together with PAS on three separate occasions was a matter of public record that could not be erased.
At the Paloh Jaya New Village Carnival on Friday night, Dr Wee was joined by Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, MCA veteran Datuk Hoo Seong Chan and MCA Youth central committee member Chai Jie Yang to campaign for Barisan's Paloh candidate Lee Ting Han.
Describing Lee as a proven performer, Dr Wee said the incumbent state executive councillor had helped secure RM110bil in investments for Johor, contributing to the state's 8% economic growth, the highest in the country.
"Lee Ting Han has proven his capability through his work. Paloh needs continuity, and Johor should not lose an experienced state executive councillor who has delivered results," he said.
Johor will go to the polls on July 11, with early voting set for July 7.
