‘Only 133 candidates confirmed’

JOHOR BARU: A total of 593 nomination forms for the Johor state election have been sold, says Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

The Election Commission (EC) chairman, however, said that only 133 prospective candidates had confirmed their participation by paying the required deposit.

He noted that the number was expected to increase, as prospective candidates still had until the start of the nomination process this morning to complete the formalities.

“We still have time until Saturday and we hope candidates intending to contest will come earlier to make their payments so that the nomination process can proceed smoothly,” he said, Bernama reported.

On security arrangements, Ramlan reminded all political parties, candidates and supporters to comply with regulations and avoid any provocation.

The Johor state legislative assembly was dissolved on June 1. The EC has set June 27 as nomination day, July 7 for early voting and July 11 as polling day.
