KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force clarifies that the four foreign nationals seen in a viral social media image were subjected to a routine security inspection during the Air Force Open Day at the Kuantan Air Base on June 21.
In a statement Monday (June 22), the Air Force said its security personnel were conducting patrols when they noticed the individuals approaching the boundary of an area designated for public visitors.
Checks were immediately carried out on the four individuals in accordance with standard security procedures.
“The inspection found no elements that could compromise the security or integrity of the air base.
“Checks on their camera equipment and mobile phones also did not reveal any suspicious materials,” the statement said.
The Air Force stressed that random security inspections are part of its standard operating procedures during events involving members of the public.
It added that measures would continue to be taken to ensure the safety and security of strategic assets, air base personnel and visitors at all times.
The statement was issued following the circulation of a photograph on social media showing the four foreign nationals being questioned by security personnel at the air base.
