GEORGE TOWN: Applications for the 2026 Penang Future Foundation (PFF) scholarships for all Malaysian students will open from July 15 to Aug 5, offering financial aid to those pursuing tertiary studies in local public and private universities.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said prospective applicants could apply for either the PFF Penang Scholar or PFF Mutiara Scholar awards, subject to meeting the respective eligibility requirements.
The PFF Penang Scholar category is for students with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.67 and above, while the PFF Mutiara Scholar is open to those with a CGPA between 3.00 and 3.66.
"Interested candidates are advised to check the eligibility requirements for each category, including their financial background and scholastic record," Chow said in a statement on Friday (June 19).
He said successful applicants would receive benefits according to the scholarship awarded, with details available on the PFF website.
Chow, who chairs the foundation, said the Penang state government's scholarship initiative had entered its 11th year and remained an important effort to nurture and retain talent.
He said attracting and retaining skilled workers was crucial to supporting Penang's growth over the next 50 years and meeting the increasing demand from industries investing in the state.
Established in 2015, PFF is a state government initiative aimed at helping outstanding and deserving Malaysian youths pursue higher education.
With contributions from private sector partners and donors, the foundation has awarded about 863 scholarships worth a projected RM47.7mil since its inception.
Last year, 58 students from various backgrounds received scholarships in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, accountancy and finance.
Students can obtain more information on scholarship benefits and application terms through the PFF website and its social media platforms.
