Woman seriously hurt, loses leg after SUV skids off road on East Coast Expressway


DUNGUN: A woman lost her left leg after the car she was travelling in was involved in an accident at KM341.5 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), near the Paka Rest and Service (R&R) area near here Friday (June 5).

Operations Commander senior fire officer II Nor Hazamullah Abdullah said the 57-year-old woman suffered the injury when the sports utility vehicle (SUV) she was travelling in skidded off the road at the scene.

He added that they received an emergency call regarding the accident at 5.41pm and dispatched seven firefighters and a fire engine to the scene.

"The victim, whose left leg was severed below the knee, was successfully extricated by firefighters. The severed limb was also found in the vehicle and handed over to the medical officer at the scene,” he said when contacted.

He said there were five people - a man and four women - in the vehicle when the accident occurred, adding that they were on their way from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, Pahang, at that time.
