KUALA LUMPUR: The Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, scheduled to begin on June 22, will proceed as planned, according to the Office of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
The Speaker’s Office said there were no changes to the parliamentary calendar.
“As of now, there are no changes to the Dewan Rakyat sitting dates as set out in the official parliamentary calendar,” it said in confirming the matter to Bernama yesterday.
According to the schedule on Parliament’s portal, the meeting is scheduled to run for 16 days from June 22 to July 16.
The first meeting of the current Dewan Rakyat session ended on March 3 after a 20-day sitting.
Earlier, rumours circulated claiming that the Dewan Rakyat sitting would be cancelled to make way for state elections in several states in Peninsular Malaysia.
On Monday, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor state assembly, effective June 1, paving the way for state polls to be held within 60 days.
On Thursday night, Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also announced that the 36-seat Negri Sembilan state assembly had been officially dissolved after receiving consent from Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
