Modified lorry seized in Tawau diesel smuggling bust

KOTA KINABALU: A lorry with a modified fuel tank was seized in Tawau over suspicions of smuggling subsidised fuel.

The seizure came after General Operations Force personnel alerted the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry on Tuesday (May 5).

The Sabah branch of the ministry said a man was arrested in the 7.30pm raid.

The ministry said the lorry, carrying about 1,350 litres of diesel, was seized along with equipment believed to have been used in the smuggling operation.

It said the seized items, worth about RM104,256.25, were taken to the ministry’s Sabah base for investigation under the Supplies Control Act 1961.
