Woman found with 61 stab wounds in padi field

KOTA BARU: The body of a woman was found in a padi field in Kampung Simah, Ketereh, with 61 stab wounds.

Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said police received a call from the public regarding the discovery at about 12.30am yesterday.

“Initial examinations by the police forensic team found a total of 61 stab wounds on the victim’s body, from the face down to the legs.

“Most of the injuries were concentrated on the right side of the victim’s body,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

He said preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was killed at a different location before her body was dumped in the padi field.

Comm Mohd Yusoff said the crime scene was dark as there was no street lighting, with the nearest dwelling located about 47m away.

No identification documents were found on the victim who was clad in a black long-sleeved top and black trousers.

She was also found wearing a necklace bearing the inscription “SYAA”, a bracelet on her left wrist and a ring on the middle finger of her right hand.

Several other items were also found at the scene, including a pair of glasses and a light purple shawl.

Comm Mohd Yusoff said the victim was later identified as a 19-year-old woman from Perak, whose identity was established through fingerprint verification by the National Registration Department.

“The victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Department of Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II for a post-mortem,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
