Dialysis patient gets three years jail for sexual assault on 15-year-old girl

SEREMBAN: A 60-year-old dialysis patient has been sentenced to three years in jail by the Sessions Court for committing physical sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl at a government hospital.

Zulkefli Abdul Rani pleaded guilty when he was charged on April 16.

During proceedings on Monday (April 20), judge Surita Budin said the court took into account that the accused required dialysis and suffered from a broken leg.

Zulkefli, who appeared in a wheelchair, committed the offence at about 4pm on Jan 30.

The incident occurred at a hospital.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi said the accused had been in prison since April 16 after failing to raise RM5,500 bail.

The Prisons Department will take the accused to hospital for his treatment while he is incarcerated.
