Snatch theft gang busted in Cheras


KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a gang of snatch thieves following investigations into a case in Taman Mutiara Raya here.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said police received a report on an April 4 snatch theft in front of a hair salon there.

"The victim suffered losses of about RM2,000 in cash along with personal documents and bank cards.

"Acting on intelligence, a police team carried out three separate raids around Cheras and at a shopping mall on Thursday (April 9), where three men aged between 23 and 33 were detained.

"Checks found that all suspects had multiple criminal and drug-related offences on their records," he said in a statement on Monday (April 13).

Police also seized a motorcycle, vehicle parts, mobile phones, helmets and cash during the arrests.

"Initial investigations revealed that two of the suspects used a motorcycle belonging to a friend.

"The stolen money was shared among them for daily expenses and to buy drugs.

"They have all been remanded until Tuesday (April 14) to help with investigations," he said.
