Pensioner jailed, fined for filming up lawyer's skirt

KUALA LUMPUR: A pensioner was sentenced to seven days in jail and fined RM4,000 by the Selayang Magistrate's Court here on Friday (April 10) after pleading guilty to recording a video up the skirt of a female lawyer at a restaurant three days ago.

Magistrate Mahmoodah VM Abdul Latif handed down the sentence on S. Anandhan, 62, and ordered him to serve the jail sentence from the date of arrest on Tuesday.

He was also ordered to serve six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

Anandhan is charged with committing the act against the 29-year-old victim with the intention of insulting her modesty at a restaurant in Rawang Town Centre, Gombak, at 5.49pm on April 7.

The charge, under Section 509 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum jail term of five years or a fine or both, if convicted.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hafiz Aiman Badrisham urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, noting that the victim had suffered trauma and required psychiatric treatment.

Defence counsel V. Kumar, however, appealed for a lighter sentence. - Bernama
