Immigration nabs 66 foreigners without papers in Seremban

SEREMBAN: Immigration has detained 66 undocumented foreigners in raids carried out in several areas here, says its state director Kennith Tan.

He said 128 foreigners were screened during the exercise conducted at 17 locations from 10am on Wednesday (April 8) to early Thursday.

"Five of those detained were women," he said in a statement.

Tan said 17 were Bangladeshis, followed by Myanmar nationals (16), Pakistanis (13), Indians (11), Nepalis (five), Sri Lankans and Indonesians (two each).

Tan said no untoward incident was reported during the raids.

"The raids were carried out following public feedback and a week-long surveillance carried out by Immigration," he said, adding that those detained were between 18 and 55 years old.

He said among the offences committed were not having a valid travel document and overstaying.

The foreigners will be probed under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.

"I would like to urge the public to report to us if they have information on the presence of undocumented foreigners.

"Stern action will also be taken against employers who hire these individuals or those found to be harbouring them," he added.
