E-hailing driver fined RM2,000 for punching motorcyclist at Kulai roundabout


KULAI: An e-hailing driver was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to punching a motorcyclist.

Yeoh Ah Choi, 62, was charged on Wednesday (April 8) with hurting the motorcyclist, who was on his way to his workplace in Singapore, causing the victim to sustain soft tissue injuries around his body.

He was accused of committing the offence at a roundabout along Lebuh Putra Utama here on April 3.

According to the statement of facts, the incident happened due to a misunderstanding between the accused and the motorcyclist, which led Yeoh to punch the victim.

Yeoh was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to one year, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Magistrate R. Salini ordered Yeoh to pay a fine of RM2,000 in default of two months' jail.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Lee Weng Hong, while the accused was represented by a lawyer.
