TV3, Astro Awani deny issuing fake news on fuel prices, electricity tariffs


KUALA LUMPUR: Buletin TV3 and Astro Awani have denied publishing any information on fuel prices or electricity tariffs, as seen in recent viral social media posts.

In a statement today, Buletin TV3 said it had received alerts regarding the spread of false information on fuel prices that misused the organisation's logo and visual identity.

"Buletin TV3 will lodge an official report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to enable further action and investigation into the dissemination of the fake news," it said in a statement uploaded on its official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Astro Awani also reported the circulation of fake news using its brand on Facebook and WhatsApp concerning an alleged statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on an upcoming electricity tariff hike.

Astro Awani, in a statement, said that it had also lodged a report with the MCMC regarding the matter.

The media organisation advised the public to verify the authenticity of any information through its official channels, including its official website. – Bernama
